1 Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
23 The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
26 They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be a blessing.
27 Turn from evil and do good;
then you will dwell in the land forever.
Have you ever wondered why people who do wrong sometimes seem to succeed while those who try to do what is right face struggles? Psalm 37:1–6, 23–27 speaks directly to this question and offers wisdom for anyone who feels discouraged by injustice.
It reminds us not to be consumed by anger, envy, or frustration when we see evil around us. Instead, God invites us to trust Him, remain patient, and continue doing what is right.
Psalm 37 begins with a clear instruction: “Do not fret because of those who do evil.” It is natural to feel upset when we see dishonesty, cruelty, or unfairness, but allowing anger to take over can rob us of peace. Constantly comparing ourselves to people who seem to prosper through wrongdoing can fill our hearts with bitterness. God calls us to guard our hearts and refuse to let evil shape our attitudes.
When we see injustice, we may be tempted to take matters into our own hands or lose hope altogether. Psalm 37:3 encourages us to trust in the Lord and continue doing good. Trust means believing that God sees what is happening, even when we do not understand His timing. Patience grows when we remember that God is just and that He has not forgotten what is right.
Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will act.” We cannot control the choices of others, but we can choose how we respond. Rather than being consumed by anger, we can bring our frustrations to God and ask for wisdom, strength, and peace. Patience does not mean ignoring evil, but it means trusting God while continuing to live faithfully.
Verses 23–24 remind us that God watches over the lives of those who trust Him. Even when life becomes difficult, God can guide our steps and help us stand firm. We may stumble, become discouraged, or grow tired, but God does not abandon His people. Knowing that God is with us gives us the strength to remain patient in challenging situations.
Psalm 37:27 encourages us to turn away from evil and do good. When people hurt us or act unfairly, we may feel tempted to respond in the same way. Yet God calls us to live differently by choosing integrity, kindness, and righteousness. Patience is not weakness; it is the strength to keep doing what is right even when others do not.
One of the hardest parts of patience is waiting for justice. We often want immediate answers and quick solutions, but God works according to His perfect timing. Psalm 37 reminds us that evil does not have the final word and that God remains faithful to those who trust Him. While waiting may be difficult, we can have confidence that God sees every situation and will act according to His wisdom.
Lord, help us not to be consumed by anger when we see evil around us. Teach us to trust You, continue doing good, and wait patiently for Your timing. Guard our hearts from bitterness and fill us with peace as we follow You. Give us the strength to respond with grace and faith, knowing that You are just and faithful.
Hi, I’m Pat, the creator of Pen, Paper, and Prayer, a Christian community created to reach people who need to know Jesus and encourage fellow believers in their walk with Christ. I created this space to share faith, testimonies, and lessons from real-life situations that others may relate to. I am also part of a church worship team and occasionally volunteer in other churches. Through writing, music, and service, I hope to glorify God and help make Jesus known.
